Animals at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Include an animal

I got this cute card from the cover of a magazine I bought at the knitting and stitching shiw last year.  It's for my Mum's birthday and hopefully she'll love it as much as I do!

Dots and/or Stripes at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Dots and/or stripes

I made this card for Love Quilts UK, a charity that makes beautiful cross stitched quilts for sick children.  Each quilt is made up from 12 cross stitched squares according to whatever theme the child would like.  A card is also sent with the quilt.  This card is for a little boy who is deaf and has cleft lip and palate. I have also stitched a couple of squares for the quilts.  If you would like to know more their website can be found here.

Christmas is Coming at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Include Pearls/Bling

I've made these cards in 3 different colours.  They were quite quick to stitch up and I decided to change the individual stitches for the lights into beads as I have quite a few in my stash.  I'm really pleased with how they turned out.

Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Go Gold for Childhood Cancer at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Gp Gold for Childhood Cancer.

This theme was my choice.  I was inspired by a little girl local to me, Sophie Fairall, who sadly passed away a year ago at the age of just 10 from cancer.  Her family have been fighting to raise awareness of childhood cancer and improve the hospital experience for sick children and their families ever since.  September is childhood cancer awareness month which I didn't know about before. To find out more about Sophie's journey and her remarkable legacy please visit https://www.sophieslegacy.co.uk/

Summertime at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Summer Time

Who doesn't love a bit of nice summery weather?  I'm lucky enough to live 10 minutes from the beach and it's just beautiful at this time of year.  Ive made this summery card using a chart from a magazine, hand dyed fabric by KLT Charting and some paper from a pad I bought in Lidl.

Christmas in July

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Christmas in July

I've made this card using variegated DMC thread, I thought the colours quite suited the Christmas tree chart.  Luckily I had some tree paper in my stash which I think goes quite well too.

Seems mad to be thinking about Christmas already but it'll come round soon enough!

Monochrome at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Monochrome

I decided to get out my pad of black and white papers and used three complementary designs and make a simple card.  I used my die cutter to cut out the hand stamped sentiment and added a small butterfly punch.  I'm really pleased with how this turned out.

Include Pears/Bling at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Include Pearls/Bling

I've made this cute cat card for my son for Christmas.  It's by Durene Jones and I modified it slightly by using sparkly etoile threads for some of the green in the tree, the sentiment and the stars.

Include an Animal at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Include an Animal

I've made this cute little bear using a kit from a magazine.  He's really sweet and not too difficult to stitch apart from the backstitch, which was a bit fiddly.  He's going to be for my mother-in-law for her birthday.

Dots and/or Stripes at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Dots and/or Stripes

I thought that my washi tape collection would be perfect for this challenge.  I've got a selection of pink and blue shades in my stash but thought I'd use blue as it's my husband's birthday next month.

I'm really pleased with how this turned out.  It was a bit tricky gettng all the tape to line up square but I think it's worked out OK.

Let's See Red at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Let's See Red

I'm not a massive fan of Valentine's day so I've decided to ignore the obvious red theme for this time of year and get a head start on my Christmas cards instead!

I love a clean and simple card and this theme has given me the opportunity to play with my new circle cutter that I got for Christmas last year.  I used holographic card and ribbons from my stash to come up with a simple but elegant design.

Layer it Up at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Layer it Up

I've made another 3D aperture card using a kit that I picked up at he craft show at the NEC a couple of years ago.  This was quick and easy for me to do, it's hard to fit in card making at this time of year when it's so busy!

Happy New Year to you all, hopefully 2022 will be a much better one for all of us!

Christmas at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Christmas/Winter

I've made this 3D aperture card using a kit that I picked up at he craft show at the NEC a couple of years ago.  I think it's quite effective and the best bit is that I have lots of elements left over to add to other projects!

It hardly seems possible that we're getting ready for Christmas again, let's hope that we can celebrate properly this year.

Autumn and/or Halloween

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Autumn and/or Halloween

This design is called Haunted House by Jodyri.  One of my stitching group friends did this on some pink fabric and I loved it so had to stitch it myself.  I've used dark blue though as I thought it was more spooky!

I've used DMC glow in the dark thread for the ghosts but I couldn't get a decent photo so you'll just have to trust me!

Added Sparkle at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Add Sparkle

Here's a quick card I've made using glitter washi tape from my stash in shades of pink and silver.  I got the inspiration from Pinterest.  I neeed something quick and easy this month as we've been decorating and today was the first day I've been able to get at my stash beacuse of stuff everywhere!  I'm quite pleased with the effect though.

Anything Goes at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Anything goes.

I stitched this little beer motif from a design library in World of Cross Stitching magazine.

This is a birthday card for my Dad who likes a pint. I only had this one sheet of the tie paper in my stash but I think the colours go quite well together.  It's so hard to find patterned papers that work well for men!

Here's a card for my Dad for Father's day.  He likes gardening and what could be more summery than sitting in a lovely garden in the sunshine?

For a Baby or Child at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is For a Baby orChild

This chart was a free cover kit from World of Cross Stitching magazine but I've not used the aperture card that came with it and have used card, paper and embellishments from my stash.  I'm going to give it to my friend whose baby is due this month.  Let's hope her scans are correct and she is having a boy!

Shaped Cards at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Shaped Cards.

This kit is from The Nutmeg Company and I bought it at the NEC a couple of years ago, being super organised for my parents' golden wedding anniversary.  It's quite fiddly to cut the shape out but I love the finished effect.

It's also full of gold metallic thread which is my least favourite thing to stitch with but you can't have a golden wedding card without gold!
