Birthday at Craft Rocket

Hello again everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Craft Rocket.  Our theme this month is Birthday.

I saw something similar to this on Pinterest using two different types of embossing patterns.  I was going to add a botton and some ribbon but thought it looked best without and kept it simple.

Guest Designer at Dragonfly Dreams

Hello again everyone, I'm thrilled to have been invited to be a guest designer this month at Dragonfly Dreams!

The theme this time is Use Black - a little or a lot. I've opted to use a lot! I've been given this cute panda form Oddball Art to work with, he didn't take a lot of colouring, the little bit I've done is with Promarkers.

The papers were an absolute bargain, I got them in a random pack in a charity shop, the pearls are from my stash.

Pink at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Pink.
I've been looking at Pinterest for inspiration this month.  I had a butterfly die and some embossed card in my stash so thought I'd give this a try.

Overall I'm quite happy with it although I might look a getting some different shaped flowers for my stash as I think something more delicate would have looked better.

Anything Goes at Craft Rocket

Hello again everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Craft Rocket.  Our theme this month is Anything Goes.

I made this card for Mother's Day, I love the colours in the flower.

The leaves are done in variegated thread, it's the first time I've used this type of thread but I love the effect it gives.

Animals at Craft Rocket

Hello again everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Craft Rocket.  Our theme this month is Animals.

I made this card using a kit from The Nutmeg Company.  They specialise in 3D cross stitch cards and buildings.  I've made one of their houses before, very fiddly but stunning!

It's stiched on perforated paper using the threads included in the kit.  It really reminds me of my old stitching buddy, he was a tabby cat.

For a baby or child at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is for a baby or child

I saw this chart in a magazine and thought it would be perfect for my son, aged 11.  He loves crazy golf, if we go anywhere that has a course we have to have a go.  My Dad has even put a hole in his lawn so he can play at their house!

It's stiched 2 over 1 on 14 count aida using the recommended DMC threads.

Summer is Coming at Craft Rocket

Hello again everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Craft Rocket.  Our theme this month is Summer is Coming.

I made this card a little while ago for a gift exchange at a cross stitch retreat.  I think mermaids and the beach are very summery and the seaside was the theme for the gift exchange.

The chart was from World of Cross Stitch magazine and was stitched 2 over 1 on 14 count aida using the recommended DMC threads.  I changed it slightly as it was meant to say have a fin-tastic valentine's day.  I removed valentine's, moved up day and added the clam shell from one of the other charts in the series to fill in the gap.  The sparkly paper is from a pad I bought in Lidl ages ago.  I keep hoping they'll have those pads again but I haven't seen them since.

For the Men/Boys at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is for the men/boys.

I really struggle with cards for men but when I saw this chart in a magazine recently I thought it would be great for this challenge.

I used some had dyed fabric for th first time, it's 14 count aida and is called solent stitchers retreat by KLT Charting.  It was an exclusive fabric at a retreat I went on in February.  The card and paper are from my stash.

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is using a colour palette.

This is the inspiration photo and colour palette we were given to work with.

I made this card for Mother's Day.  I've had this chart for a while and this was the perfect excuse to stitch it as the colours are just right.

New Born at Craft Rocket

Hello again everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Craft Rocket.  Our theme this month is New Born.

When this challenge was set I didn't know anyone that was having a baby but a few days after I finished this card a colleague at work told me she is expecting!

I think this little bear is very cute, he was a gift on the front of a magazine so I have a few more tags I could make if needed.  The paper, card and tiny punched bears are from my stash.

Spots/Stripes at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Spots/Stripes

I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it was really good.  As I had some spotty ribbon in my stash I thought I'd give it a go for this theme.

I've added a stamped sentiment and even managed to get it lined up straight!

Flowers at Craft Rocket

Hello again everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Craft Rocket.  Our theme this month is Flowers.

I made this card for a friend's 50th bithday,  The chart is from a magazine and was a real pain to stitch!  It has lots of fractionals and metallic thread both of which I hate.  I love the beads in the middle of the flowers though.

I finished it by fixing it over a piece of card as recommended in the magazine which is a technique I've not used before. It was a bit fiddly so I'm not sure I'd use this method again.

Spring at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Spring.

I have made a card using a kit that came with a magazine.  With all the bright flowers on it I thought it fitted this theme perfectly.

It was easy enough to stitch up but what a pain to get it in the card blank!  I couldn't get it square so had to stick one end at a time then leave it overnight to set then stick the sides.  Because I put some wadding behind it I couldn't then get the flap on the inside to stick down so had to put it under somethig heavy!  I think in future I'd patch it onto the front.  It's for my mother-in-law's birthday so I hope she appreciates the effort!

Valentine at Craft Rocket

Hello again everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Craft Rocket.  Our theme this month is Valentines.

I don't really do Valentine's day so struggled a bit with this theme.  I found this chart in a magazine and thought as the cupcake has hearts on it that it would fit the theme.

The paper, flowers and card are from my stash.

Include a Heart at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, it's time for a new monthly challnge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Include a Heart

I have made a card for my Mum's birthday.  I don't really do Valentine's day so struggle a bit to find ideas for these sort of challenges.  I think this fits this theme very nicely though!

It's a kit from Hobbycraft, one of those little ones they have by the tills to tempt you into spending more money!  It had a lot of french knots which I don't actually mind once I've done a few.  I know a lot of people hate them and sometimes switch them out for beads which is a great idea.

Winter at Craft Rocket

Hello again everyone, it's time for a new monthly challenge at Craft Rocket.  Our theme this month is Winter.

I've made this cute little snowman with dangly legs.  He's stitched on to plastic canvas and backed with felt.  I cut a hole in the card, glued a peg to his back and clipped him in the hole.  He can now be used as an ornament!  The chart is from Ultimate Cross Stitch Cards magazine.

He's stitched 2 over 1 using the recommended DMC threads. The wintery paper is from my stash.

Things with Wings at Unicorn

Good morning everyone, Happy New Year to you all!  It's time for a new monthly challenge at Unicorn.  Our theme this time is Things with Wings.

I have made a card for my Dad's birthday.  He is a keen fisherman so a Kingfisher seemed appropriate.  The chart is from Ultimate Cross Stitch Wildlife magazine and is stitched 2 over 2 with the recommended DMC threads.

The chart said this was aimed at the experienced stitcher, which I consider myself to be, but boy, did I have to keep unpicking bits where I went wrong!  Very fiddly indeed with lots of fractionals.  Worth it in the end though as I think it looks great.
